Deliverables
The Expert Volunteer will submit the following deliverables:
  1. Minutes/notes of the meetings held with OCGS staff
  2. Description of the followings;
a. Methodology and approaches that describe areas that support was provided most and available strengths
b. New ideas and innovations that might be useful for successful execution of the exercise.
c. Review and comment on similar exercises conducted by the OCGS and
d. Recommendations on foreseen challenges that ENGINE should be conscious of.
The Expert Volunteer will submit a Final Trip Report to the ENGINE Program that includes the following sections:
A. Introduction;
B. Methodology/approaches
C. Recommendations on how best ENGINE could utilize OCGS’s technical resources and experience to ensure that the baseline survey achieves its objectives.
D. An analysis of OCGS’s available data analysis tools and technical skills and knowledge to be able to apply the available tools.
Additionally, the Expert Volunteer will provide exit debriefings to the OCGS, and ENGINE/USAID.
The Expert Volunteer will also perform remote work following their return from Tanzania, to perform tasks related to the rollout of the Business Formalization Baseline Survey that will be implemented in Zanzibar.
Expert Volunteer Qualifications
The ideal survey data collection, analysis and report writing specialist will have the following skills and qualifications:
• 5+ years of experience working within developing country government statistical institutions, preferably in an organizational development support, training, mentoring or coaching role, in the areas of data analysis, reporting and training;
• Track record of developing sound research proposals and conducting large scale business baseline surveys, preferably in a developing country;
• Excellent quantitative and/or qualitative research skills;
• Understanding of and ability to operationalize a range of research and evaluation methodologies and methods;
• Self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, mature, professional team player, who is a strong people person and communicator, with good inter-personal skills;
• Ability to address issues, challenges, questions, and concerns in a professional, respectful, logical, and timely manner;
• Works well in a multi-cultural setting;
• Well-developed writing skills in English and the ability to express yourself clearly and concisely;
• Good computer skills in MS Office.

The position is based in Zanzibar and will require travel throughout the Tanzanian coastline. The position is full-time and open to both Tanzanian and non-Tanzanian citizens. The Marine Conservationists will support WCS Tanzania in the implementation of conservation-focused marine projects. S/he will work also with other WCS marine conservationists in development, planning, implementation and science components. S/he will contribute as a scientific advisor to marine conservation and integrate research and monitoring into program implementation to improve the conservation impact of WCS conservation. S/he will also be involved in management, technical advice, fundraising and training.

Qualifications required:
• MSc or equivalent in marine conservation/science, ecology, biology, conservation.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
• Specific experience with sharks and rays, MPAs, or cetaceans an advantage.
• Proven ability to achieve successful on-the-ground marine science or conservation outcomes.
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with people of diverse cultures, value systems, perspectives and levels of education, and to manage staff in these contexts.
• Professional proficiency in English (and ideally KiSwahili).
• Willingness to travel extensively within Tanzania.
• Demonstrable and passionate commitment to marine conservation and genuine enthusiasm about career development in marine conservation.
• Excellent planning, communication, reporting and organisational skills.
• A high level of integrity, honesty and responsibility.
• SCUBA certification level equivalent at least to PADI Advanced Open Water is preferable
