Description
The position is based in
Zanzibar and will require travel throughout the Tanzanian coastline.
The position is full-time and open to both Tanzanian and non-Tanzanian
citizens. The Marine Conservationists will support WCS Tanzania in the
implementation of conservation-focused marine projects. S/he will work
also with other WCS marine conservationists in development, planning,
implementation and science components. S/he will contribute as a
scientific advisor to marine conservation and integrate research and
monitoring into program implementation to improve the conservation
impact of WCS conservation. S/he will also be involved in management,
technical advice, fundraising and training.Qualifications required:
• MSc or equivalent in marine conservation/science, ecology, biology, conservation.
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience.
• Specific experience with sharks and rays, MPAs, or cetaceans an advantage.
• Proven ability to achieve successful on-the-ground marine science or conservation outcomes.
• Ability to work sensitively and effectively with people of diverse cultures, value systems, perspectives and levels of education, and to manage staff in these contexts.
• Professional proficiency in English (and ideally KiSwahili).
• Willingness to travel extensively within Tanzania.
• Demonstrable and passionate commitment to marine conservation and genuine enthusiasm about career development in marine conservation.
• Excellent planning, communication, reporting and organisational skills.
• A high level of integrity, honesty and responsibility.
• SCUBA certification level equivalent at least to PADI Advanced Open Water is preferable
