Istiqaama for Development, shortly Istiqaama is an Islamic
charity organization established in 2004 by a group of Muslims who seek the Almighty`s pleasures, based in Chake Chake Pemba- Zanzibar.

It is a non-profitable organization targeting to uplift the lives of marginalized societies and individuals, irrespective of social spheres, gender or age.

In supporting the education sector, Istiqaama through its fund has built schools, institutes and Islamic madrasas which provide a better knowledge to the Islamic society. Many children are now having access to both religious and secular education.

Farahedy Secondary School is one of the schools built and managed by Istiqaama, founded in 2008 and its first intake was in 2009. It was built under the sponsorship of Zanzibar Children’s Fund. The school was established in pursuance of the society’s objective to provide quality education and excellent moral training and discipline to the Muslim youth in Zanzibar.

The School has evolved into a successful secondary school providing a high standard of education. Our CSE results have continued to improve over the years and are well above local and national averages.

We are seeking a creative, dynamic, motivated and energetic individual to fill the position of Headmaster of Farahedy Secondary School.

PRIMARY FUNCTION
To provide professional leadership for the school which secures its success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its students and good standards of learning and achievement.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities of Headmaster will include but not limited to:

i. Hold and articulate clear Islamic values and moral purpose focused on providing a World class Education to the students and reflecting the character of the school.

ii. Demonstrate optimistic personal behaviour, positive relationships and attitudes towards the students, staff, parents and members of the local and wider community.

iii. Demand ambitious standards of achievement, support and challenge, instilling a strong sense of accountability in staff for the impact of their work on students' outcomes.

iv. Ensure that all those involved in the school are committed to its aims, motivated to achieve them, and involved in meeting long, medium and short term objectives and targets which secure the educational success of the school.

v. Promote creativity, innovation and the use of appropriate new technologies to achieve excellence.


vi. Maintain sound procedures for the security, supervision and maintenance of the school environment, ensuring that all Health and Safety regulations are met.

vii. Provide educational leadership, which includes Staff development and growth, Curriculum implementation and evaluation and implementation of comprehensive plan for the school.

viii. Build and maintain a high performance culture leading to high standards of teaching and learning throughout the school and hold the school accountable for student achievement.

ix. Streamline an effective administrative and management structure that can effectively utilize the resources to run day -to-day affairs of the school.

x. Build a collaborative learning culture with other schools, agencies and partners (especially with the schools with higher performance) continue to build effective learning to promote excellence in teaching and learning.

Qualifications and Experiences

1. Bachelor’s degree in education or relevant academic field.

2. Minimum of 7 years’ experience including 4 years’ education administrative experience and 3 years’ Secondary school teaching experience.

3. Proven successful leadership and management experience at least in a senior team or as a Headmaster or Deputy Headmaster will be an added advantage.

4. Recent and relevant training and professional development in relation to secondary school curriculum, management, teaching and learning will be an added advantage.

Other Essential Requirements for this post:

1. Excellent oral and written communication skills in both Kiswahili and English.

2. Excellent Computing and data management skills and use of ICT as a teaching, learning, communication and administrative tool.

3. Willingness to embrace new ideas and be comfortable with and proactive in change.

4. Proven ability to develop a clear vision of the school’s future development.

5. Self-motivated person able to work without close supervision

6. Proven ability to promote a strong, positive ethos and maintain high standards of behaviour.

Under the general direction and supervision of the Managing Director, the Finance Manager shall assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and payroll for the organization. The overall purpose of the position is to establish and maintain adequate financial and management systems as well as ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manages the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls.
- Manages the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses and records.
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of various financial statements and reports.
- Reviews financial statements with management personnel.
- Manage the preparation of the organization's budget
- Report to management on variances from the established budget, and the reasons for those variances
- Preparing reports as required by law, regulations or organization policies
- Ensuring compliance with applicable laws and procedures.
- Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls.

Education, Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience.
- Certified Public Account (CPA) certification is required.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget analysis, follow-up, and compliance & reporting.
- Detail-oriented and organized, and have strong skills in math, communication and analysis.
- Good written English skills, particularly report writing skills.
- Strong ICT skills (Quickbooks, Microsoft Office Word, Excel).

Language requirements:

Background

The UN sub-office in Zanzibar was established in 2009, inaugurated jointly by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon and then President of Zanzibar HE Dr. Abeid Amaan Karume. The sub-office embodies the delivering as one (DaO) principles meant to work towards greater coherence of the UN system’s development assistance in Zanzibar in order to more efficiently and effectively deliver results in support of national priorities. The UN sub- office currently houses five UN agencies based in Zanzibar that work together in delivering development assistance. The agencies are UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, WHO and FAO. The Office also provide services to non-resident agencies.
The UN sub-office operates under one IT infrastructure and has an IT Associate who supports the agencies to meet their communication needs for implementation of their respective programmes. To provide learning opportunities to young and emerging IT professionals, the Sub Office would like to invite interns to enhance their skills through hands-on experience in IT issues.


Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the IT Associate, who is guided by the UNDP CO IT unit, and under the overall supervision of the Head of the UN sub-office/Liaison Officer for the Resident Coordinator’s Office, the intern will support the functions of the IT Unit and other inter-agency UN communications in Zanzibar, especially targeting the youth. The intern office will be located in the IT server room on the 3rd floor of the UN sub-office in Zanzibar.
The intern will support the IT Associate in the performance of the following responsibilities:
Provide Desktop Support to the UN staff.
Provide Servers Maintenance and data Backup.
Support for desktop applications.
Assist in Operating system and Application Installation
Check and make sure antivirus runs and updates properly.
Provide printer and scanner support.
Assist in Minor hardware and Software repairs.
Provide Network maintenance and troubleshooting.
Send out and follow up hardware for service.
Follow-up on Services request with suppliers (by phone or physically)
Prepare an intern end of assignment report.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation.

UNDP internship programme does not provide a salary or remuneration for the internship;
All the expenses connected with the internship will be borne by the intern, sponsoring Government or institution;

The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UNDP during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the expiration date of internship;
The intern must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan;
